What is a backlink?

This image from Wikipedia is a great example of what backlinking is and the benifits that your site can get from high quality baclinks.  Backlinks from websites work like votes, there are some basics that you want to consider when getting backlinks to your website:

  • Try and get links from only high quality websites that are in your market niche
  • The more authoritative the site the better the link
  • Use anchor text to help strengthen the backlink when possible
  • Do your best to have one way links to your site, link exchanging just shows the Search Engines that you think your site is equal to the one that you are exchanging with and with so many sites on the Internet these days you need to be the authoritative site
